Unlocking My Pillars

By Steve Holmes

Simplification is Complicated, it is my biggest challenge in life.

Relevance and Contribution are most often the prize of simplicity, as it brings everything into alignment providing clarity of vision. It unlocks the magic of its very own unseen momentum.

Momentum is life

Taking that next step and the one after that without condition or proof is the magic within momentum. I learn’t to do this no matter how small or insignificant the step, I did this until momentum embraced, lifting me up and beyond the now, to a place where my dreams and visions could breathe and become real. With Vision and Momentum is with life, without them is without life.

Simplification and Momentum helped unlock my Pillars

I was became conscious that I needed to somehow retain the “ME” factor, and not to get all bent out of shape as I slipped out the back door of life, or hang around taking up space mentally limping along as a different Steve.

As I reflected on stuff, and all that I had come through, it became clear that I had recurring themes of habit. I had leaned very heavily on seemingly simple and basic habits of thought and action, and I am certain that I was not always conscious that I was doing this. What I am certain of is the impact that my habits had on those around me, it  breed and fed a culture of confidence which seemed to go a long way toward repaying the many who had invested so much of themselves in the face of my unlikely recovery.

I guess a big lesson or takeaway that I have learn’t from all this would have to be that people will naturally work harder and give more of themselves, even play well above and beyond their everyday capabilities, when they are immersed within a common and simple objective, especially more so, if they share this with others of the same mind. In my case that had to include me the patient setting the stage and the pace!  Yes it is true, people will always rally around genuine integrity and those who demonstrate that they have the determination of mind and effort to pull themselves back up by their own bootstraps.

“Rise and Rise again until lambs become Lions” – it weeds out the winners!

When I began to further reflect over the years, I could see some common threads or pillars in many of my past successes. So I wrote them down . . .

Pillars of Character

Unrealistic: Being a little unrealistic often, feeds my dreams and defines my vision – it generates life and energy.

The Looking Glass: The awareness of its existence allows me to transcend beyond, to a place where aspirations and dreams can find the seeds to their tangibility.

Willingness: Unconditional ‘Willingness’ keeps my mind aware, receptive and energised.

Momentum is Life and Magic

Simplicity

Relevance: Is embedded within my continual awareness it is in a constant state of evolvution.

Pillars of Action

Do one thing at a time

Be remarkable @ it

Be Resourceful with it

Add Value to it or don’t do it

Surround it with talented people that can make it reality.

Yes mostly “Adapt or Die” stuff that closely mirrors the constant evolutionary process of “Birth and Death.”  Yes it would seem the opportunity of life is a cause and effect type thingy, an opportunity to fill the space in between these two immovable points and to leave a lasting legacy.  But this is all totally dependant on the crucial handover! Yes the handover resembles the relay runners opportunity to pour it all out right there on the the track, and then make the perfect hand over. If not this incredible human effort slips into the abyss of nothingness – or maybe not?

What does all this take?  It takes intent along with practice practice practice! and a little luck ! For me . . . as long as my children and their children’s children know, that I too practiced, and I dug deep and gave my absolute best! Yes that part of the legacy matters!

I would describe myself as the classic modern day ‘Active Lifestyler’ which really means I am over 50 and clinging to my diminishing youth. I am an ‘Active lifestyler’ by bike and foot. I love to swim, cycle or run everyday and yes that includes the all important post coffee bull sessions.

Diagnosed with a very aggressive Terminal Cancer: Cholangiocarcinoma, a Pancreatic/ Liver Combo connected by the Bile Ducts. No Cure, and an average survival rate of 6.8 months. After surviving through nearly 25 hours of very life threatening surgeries, I have been incredibly fortunate via Merck in California and Keytruda to make it back to solid ground. I have a second if not third chance to do something really special if not remarkable with this opportunity.

Being a little unrealistic often, feeds my dreams, defines my vision and direction where there was none.

Please say gidday
